Pancreatic cystic neoplasms (PCNs) are among the most common indications for endoscopic ultrasonography-guided fine-needle aspiration (EUS FNA) examination. However, international guidelines differ on which patients should undergo EUS FNA, and it is unclear how often its use changes the diagnoses and management of patients with PCNs.
To address these questions, investigators in Taiwan conducted single-center, nonrandomized, retrospective study of 188 patients with PCNs (mean age, 55.7 years) who underwent EUS FNA. Post–EUS FNA diagnoses of PCNs were correlated with clinical and cystic features and compared with pre–EUS FNA diagnoses, which were based on the results of cross-sectional imaging such as MRI.
