Although text-messaging interventions for patients with severe psychiatric illness are not new, reports on these interventions' effects have been conflicting. To assess the impact on medication adherence and other outcomes, investigators in China randomized 278 community-dwelling patients with schizophrenia who were receiving a treatment program involving free medication to a text-messaging intervention or a wait list.
