Biliary colic secondary to cholelithiasis is among the most common reasons for surgical referral and consultation. However, decision making regarding which patients should undergo laparoscopic cholecystectomy remains nonstandardized, and many patients have persistent symptoms following surgery, sometimes referred to as post-cholecystectomy syndrome.
