Current guidelines recommend a 5- to 10-year surveillance interval after resection of one or two colorectal adenomas <1 cm. However, debate continues regarding the relative neoplastic potential of adenomas within this size range. Two studies examine the issue.
Anderson and colleagues used the New Hampshire Colonoscopy Registry to assess associations between baseline findings and risk at surveillance colonoscopy ≥36 months later for advanced adenoma (defined as >1 cm, or villous elements or high-grade dysplasia and colorectal cancer) in 6083 patients.
