Although bicuspid aortic valves (BAVs) are present in up to 50% of relatively young patients with aortic stenosis, these have been excluded from randomized studies of transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). To learn about outcomes with TAVR in BAV, investigators conducted a manufacturer-supported observational study using data from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons/American College of Cardiology TVT Registry.
Of 92,236 registry patients undergoing TAVR with a third-generation balloon-expandable prosthesis, the investigators culled 2691 propensity-matched pairs of patients, including 469 pairs with Medicare-linked 1-year outcomes.
