In patients with pancreatic cystic lesions, endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) with fine-needle aspiration (FNA) cytology and cyst fluid analysis has been the standard of care for over 2 decades, with a goal of identifying mucinous (high-risk) lesions. Despite its advantages, the technique has limitations, and in some patients no definitive diagnosis can be reached. An alternative approach, EUS needle-guided confocal laser endomicroscopy (nCLE), allows greatly magnified and enhanced views on the lining of a pancreatic cyst. Researchers evaluated the accuracy of nCLE for diagnosing mucinous lesions.
