Guidelines to reduce neonatal infection with Group B Streptococcus (GBS) were first developed in 1996 and were most recently revised and updated in 2010. The current update is based on a review of epidemiology and practice standards.
Rates of early-onset GBS disease declined between 2006 and 2015 from 0.37 to 0.23 per 1000 live births.
Rates of GBS disease occurring after 7 days (late-onset) remained stable at an average of 0.31 per 1000 live births.
