Information about genitourinary injury after hysterectomy is limited; thus, investigators analyzed statewide California data from 2005 to 2011 in a population-based cohort study of some 300,000 women (mean age, 47) undergoing hysterectomy for benign indications (most often leiomyomas [54%], uterine bleeding [29%], or endometriosis [19%]). Surgical approaches included open abdominal (37%), laparoscopic (26%), vaginal (12%), and laparoscopic assisted vaginal (12%).
