There is limited evidence suggesting that fish consumption may be associated with a modest reduction in risk for colorectal cancer (CRC). To examine this potential association further, investigators studied data from more than 500,000 participants in the multinational European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC) study.
Information regarding participants' dietary intake of fish and long-chain n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid (n-3 LC-PUFA) was obtained from standardized questionnaires, and CRC incidence was measured during a median 15 years of follow-up. Fish consumption was grouped into quintiles: the lowest intake quintile was 9.07 g/day; the highest intake quintile was >51.30 g/day.
