Left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) is a commonly used prognostic indicator of cardiovascular disease risk and outcomes. Investigators used clinical databases to understand the relationship between physician-reported LVEF and survival.
The primary analysis was performed on 403,977 echocardiograms from 1998 to 2018 in 203,135 unique patients in a U.S. regional health system (mean age, 64; 52% men). Indications for echocardiograms varied widely, with the top five being chest pain, dyspnea/fatigue, coronary artery disease, aortic valve disease, and heart failure.
