Biodegradable polymers for everolimus drug elution combined with ultrathin-strut stents (BPEES) might mitigate inflammation and promote more rapid endothelialization than current third-generation, durable-polymer, sirolimus-eluting stents (DPSES). In a randomized, investigator-initiated, Swiss study sponsored by the BPEES manufacturer (NCT02579031), investigators compared BPEES to DPSES in 1300 patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention (mean age, 63; diabetes, 12%; 25% women).
