To study the impact of a mobile stroke unit (MSU) on triage for stroke, researchers in Germany randomized patients with suspected stroke to standard emergency medical services dispatch and care or standard care plus dispatch of an MSU. The MSU was an ambulance staffed by a paramedic, stroke neurologist, and radiologist and was equipped with alteplase, point-of-care labs, and computed tomography angiography. The primary outcome was an “accurate triage decision,” defined as transport to a comprehensive stroke center for patients with large vessel occlusion (LVO) or intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) and to a noncomprehensive stroke center for patients with other stroke syndromes. Only patients who received vascular imaging were included.
