Postcolonoscopy colorectal cancer (PCCRC) rates are inversely associated with endoscopist adenoma detection rates, and thus reflective of colonoscopy quality. The definitions and calculations of PCCRC have recently been standardized by the World Endoscopy Organization (Gastroenterology 2018; 155:909).
Using these guidelines, investigators assessed the rates of and factors associated with PCCRC among participants in the English National Health Service (NHS) between 2005 and 2013. PCCRC-3y was defined as cancer that was diagnosed 6 to 36 months after a negative colonoscopy. Results were as follows:
