Metabolic syndrome is a constellation of risk factors that predict adverse cardiovascular events. Investigators analyzed a national South Korean health insurance database to determine how changes in metabolic syndrome status affect cardiovascular risk.
The study involved 9.6 million individuals whose metabolic syndrome status was recorded at three national health screenings from 2009 to 2014, after excluding those with prior major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE), with renal impairment, or with a change in status at the last screening.
