Current postpolypectomy surveillance guidelines were developed based on data from individuals aged 50 and older. There is increased colonoscopy utilization among younger persons but few data regarding appropriate surveillance recommendations after polypectomy.
In a retrospective study, investigators assessed the risk for metachronous advanced adenomas (AAs; adenoma >1 cm, with villous elements or high-grade dysplasia, or cancer) and large (≥1 cm) serrated polyps (SPs) among over 12,000 patients with ≥1 polyp on baseline colonoscopy and surveillance colonoscopy ≥1 year later.
