Cholangioscopy has emerged as a vital technology for the evaluation of indeterminate biliary strictures. Traditional brush cytology sampling of biliary strictures is widely performed but typically has a diagnostic yield of no more than 50%. Cholangioscopy offers the potential to perform biopsy of biliary strictures under direct endoscopic visualization. However, it can be technically difficult, and the small size of the cholangioscopic forceps produces correspondingly diminutive tissue samples.
