Vancomycin for Clostridioides difficile in Patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI) can often complicate the clinical course of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Vancomycin is now the treatment of choice in this setting, but the duration of therapy is unclear.

To address this issue, investigators conducted a retrospective chart review of 134 IBD patients treated for CDI at the IBD Center at the University of Chicago. Of these patients, 57 received long-duration vancomycin (>14 days) and 77 received short-duration vancomycin (10–14 days).
