Many patients are found to have enlarged intra-abdominal lymph nodes (adenopathy) on cross-sectional imaging of unclear etiology. These patients are often referred for CT-guided or surgical biopsy. Endoscopic ultrasound–guided fine-needle aspiration (EUS FNA) can also be used to evaluate intra-abdominal lymph nodes, but many endosonographers have little or no experience with this procedure.
