Patients frequently present to us a few days after experiencing minor neurological symptoms that might (or might not) represent brain ischemia. In this multicenter study, researchers systematically studied 1028 patients with relatively low-risk presentations: either a nonmotor/nonspeech neurological event of any duration or motor or speech symptoms lasting <5 minutes. Other enrollment criteria included age ≥40, no stroke history, and clinical evaluation (by a stroke neurologist) plus magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) completed within 8 days of symptom onset. Neurological examination and MRI were performed an average of 2 and 4 days, respectively, after symptom onset.
