Myriad injury-related, environmental, and parental factors can influence postconcussive symptom (PCS) presentation and recovery in children. Additionally, the child herself is a unique substrate upon which the injury has occurred. In a previous study enrolling 101 children (age range, 2–12 years) with mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) or extracranial injuries (trauma controls), researchers found a positive predictive relationship between mTBI and PCS (J Int Neuropsychol Soc 2016; 22:793).
