Primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) is a rare primary brain malignancy for which limited randomized clinical trial data exist to inform patient management. Now, investigators have examined current treatments and outcomes for 1002 immunocompetent PCNSL patients in the French oculo-cerebral lymphoma network from 2011 to 2016.
The median age of patients at diagnosis was 68 years; 72% were older than 60. First-line treatment for 92% of patients was high-dose methotrexate-based chemotherapy; rituximab was used by an increasing percentage of patients over time, from 50% in 2011–2012 to 86% in 2015–2016.
