U.S. Department of Health and Human Services guidelines designate preferred ART regimens for all drug-naive patients living with HIV (PLH) and alternate regimens for PLH with special clinical circumstances. Investigators determined the annual average wholesale price (AWP) of the recommended initial regimens from 2012 through 2018.
During this time, the minimum AWP for preferred initial regimens increased from nearly $25,000 yearly to approximately $36,000 yearly. The average annual cost for these regimens increased 34%, or 3.5 times faster than the rate of inflation.
