Conflicting data exist regarding adverse event rates of drainage of pancreatic fluid collections (PFCs) with the now commonly used lumen-apposing metal stent (LAMS). Recently, researchers at one high-volume center retrospectively evaluated incidence and characteristics of delayed adverse events at 6-month follow-up in 188 patients who underwent endoscopic PFC drainage (of pseudocyst in 31% and pancreatic necrosis in 69%). Results were as follows:
Twelve patients (6.4%) developed serious adverse events: hemorrhage in eight and buried stent in four.
