In most COVID-19 quarantine protocols, symptomatic resolution and two consecutive negative RT-PCR tests from an upper airway swab are required for patients to come off quarantine. In a case series from Wuhan, China, four patients infected with SARS-CoV-2 were followed with RT-PCR testing of throat swabs after release from quarantine.
All patients (age range, 30–36; two male) were healthcare workers with presumed occupational exposure to SARS-CoV-2. Disease severity was mild to moderate, and all initially had positive RT-PCR results for SARS-CoV-2. One patient was hospitalized and three were quarantined at home.
