Women in the U.S. with a recent unintended birth are at risk for another — with an interpregnancy interval <12 months. Are potentially modifiable psychosocial factors associated with repeat unintended births? To examine this issue, researchers analyzed data on postpartum surveys at 2 to 8 months from the 2012–2015 Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System. Reported postpartum contraceptive method (none, less effective [withdrawal, rhythm, barrier], moderately effective [pill, patch, ring, injectable], long-acting reversible [LARC; intrauterine device, implant], sterilization [tubal blockage, vasectomy]) was correlated with reported antenatal depression, intimate partner violence (IPV), and other psychosocial stressors.
