Multitarget stool DNA (mt-sDNA) testing has been available for colorectal cancer screening since 2014 (NEJM JW Gen Med May 1 2014 and N Engl J Med 2014; 370:128). In this report, researchers present information on mt-sDNA screening (with Cologuard) in ≈16,000 Mayo Clinic patients. Nearly 60% of patients had undergone screening colonoscopy about 10 years before undergoing mt-sDNA screening; their median age was 70. In contrast, among patients who had not undergone screening colonoscopy previously, median age was 63.
Key outcomes were as follows:
14% of patients had positive mt-sDNA tests.
