U.S. healthcare experts warn that even after this outbreak wanes, come next fall or winter, we may see the recrudescence of COVID-19 coincident with the onset of seasonal influenza. Studies from two Asian island countries, Singapore and Taiwan, compared the incidence of seasonal influenza at early timepoints in the evolution of their COVID-19 outbreaks in 2019–2020 with previous comparable periods in years before the pandemic.
In Singapore, early public education on COVID-19 hygiene, coupled with social distancing, was used to limit the spread of SARS-CoV-2 virus.
