Data are limited regarding the effects of severe or critical maternal COVID-19 on pregnancy outcomes, but preterm birth has been reported (Am J Obstet Gynecol 2020 Apr 23; [e-pub]). Investigators in Switzerland report a case of a 28-year-old obese woman with a first pregnancy at 19 weeks' gestation and fever, cough, fatigue, sore throat, diarrhea, and myalgia. A nasopharyngeal swab was positive for SARS-CoV-2. Two days later, she presented with contractions, and the cervix was 5 cm dilated. A stillborn infant with no malformations was delivered after 10 hours of labor. Maternal and fetal samples were assessed for SARS-CoV-2 nucleic acid sequences.
