Serrated polyposis syndrome (SPS) is associated with increased risk for colorectal cancer (CRC). There are few prospective data regarding patient outcomes and risks for CRC and procedure complications after initial colonoscopic control of polyp burden. Now, investigators at a Dutch referral center report outcomes in 142 patients with SPS who underwent 447 annual or biennial colonoscopies with 1308 polypectomies, during up to 9 rounds of surveillance. Prospective follow-up lasted for up to 10 years (median, 47 months).

There was one CRC detected by surveillance colonoscopy (cumulative 5-year CRC incidence, 1%).
One postpolypectomy bleeding event and one postpolypectomy syndrome occurred, but there were no perforations.
