Sport-related concussion (SRC), a mild form of traumatic brain injury (TBI), is frequently seen in contact sports. The diagnosis and clinical assessment are difficult; health professionals rely on subjective criteria. Blood-based biomarkers are promising tools in the diagnosis and prognosis of TBI and SRC. To analyze changes in serum proteins after SRC and to compare biomarker levels and association with symptom duration in concussed athletes and in controls, investigators enrolled young athletes between 2015 and 2018.
