Developing protective measures to reduce UV light exposure in children is important to reduce the risk of later melanoma, especially in geographic locales with high UV exposure. This controlled school-based trial examined the skin protection practices of 734 adolescents in Brazil before and after a classroom intervention involving instruction on skin health by medical students and use of a face-aging app (Sunface). The free app alters selfies based on different levels of UV exposure and sun protection over time; each face was viewed by the class. Controls were 839 students in classes that were randomized to not receive skin health instruction or the app.
