Researchers at a single pediatric hospital at the center of the COVID-19 epidemic in Italy have reported the incidence and characteristics of a condition similar to Kawasaki disease (KD). They reviewed charts for all patients admitted with KD between January 2015 and April 2020, comparing cases diagnosed during the COVID-19 epidemic (mid-February through mid-April, 2020) with previous cases. During the epidemic, patients were tested for SARS-CoV-2 infection by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay, serology, or both.
