Recent years have seen a marked increase in awareness of the role that genetics plays in pancreatic cancer. This provides an opportunity for early detection and improved survival in patients with identifiable genetic risk.
In a new American Gastroenterological Association Institute–commissioned clinical practice update, experts provide best practice advice for identifying and screening patients at high risk for pancreatic cancer. The authors specify the goal of screening as detecting early pancreatic cancers and high-risk precursor lesions (e.g., intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms and some pancreatic intraepithelial neoplasias).
