Antibiotic administration within 60 minutes after arrival to the emergency department (ED) is recommended for oncology patients with febrile neutropenia. In this retrospective cohort study, researchers compared the time to antibiotic administration for children with febrile neutropenia at community hospital EDs and the ED of a children's hospital with a comprehensive cancer center.
Over the 5-year study period, 205 children experienced 389 hospital admissions, with 285 coming through the children's hospital ED and 104 from community hospital EDs.
