Use of compounded bioidentical hormone therapy (cBHT) is prevalent among U.S. women, reflecting marketing strategies that suggest cBHT is both effective for menopausal and other symptoms and safer than FDA-approved hormone therapy. In response to an FDA request, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine recently released a report that raised several concerns and made recommendations relevant to use of cBHT.
