In Guangzhou Province, China, 391 COVID-19 cases were identified between January 13 and March 6, 2020, via surveillance testing (3.7%), symptomatic presentation to a healthcare facility (80.7%), testing due to known contact (7%) or a combination of those methods (8.6%). Once identified, 3410 close contacts of these 391 index cases were placed in quarantine and tested daily for SARS-CoV-2. Close contact was defined as contact for any duration starting 2 days before index case symptoms or positive testing. Investigators now report transmission characteristics among these index cases and contacts.
