Investigators studied the impact of cystic fibrosis (CF) on pregnancy outcomes in a cohort of 71 women (mean age, 28; mean body-mass index, 23 kg/m2) residing in the U.K. At the first prenatal visit, in addition to CF, the women had high rates of pancreatic insufficiency (49%), pregestational diabetes (32%), and biliary disease (14%). An additional 36% developed gestational diabetes, but only 5% developed preeclampsia. Mean forced expiratory volume in 1 minute (FEV1) was 72% of predicted.
