Consistent with the national liberalization of marijuana laws, cannabis use by pregnant women doubled from 2002 to 2017. To assess the risks of this trend, researchers in a cross-sectional study compared cognitive and psychological functioning of 11,489 children (mean age, 10 years) whose mothers retrospectively reported cannabis use that stopped when they learned they were pregnant (average, 7 weeks' gestation), cannabis use that continued during pregnancy, or no cannabis use.
