Administration of plasma in the prehospital setting has been found to improve survival in patients at risk for hemorrhagic shock, particularly those with longer prehospital transport times (NEJM JW Emerg Med Feb 2020 and JAMA Surg 2020; 155:e195085; NEJM JW Emerg Med Sep 2018 and N Engl J Med 2018; 379:315). The benefit in patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI) is unknown.
In the Prehospital Air Medical Plasma (PAMPer) trial, 501 patients were randomized to standard fluid resuscitation or 2 units of plasma followed by standard fluid resuscitation.
