Given the primary role of the fallopian tubes in the genesis of ovarian cancer, more women are undergoing bilateral salpingectomy in the setting of other gynecologic surgeries. To determine how such women view risk-reducing early salpingectomy with delayed oophorectomy (RRESDO), British investigators surveyed a cohort at excess risk for ovarian cancer (based on genetic testing or family history) to assess the acceptability of this procedure.
Among 683 respondents, 51% had undergone risk-reducing salpingo-oophorectomy (RRSO) and 95% were known carriers of BRCA1 or BRCA2.
