Prostatic urethral lift (PUL) is an increasingly popular, minimally invasive, outpatient procedure for patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia. PUL consists of transurethral placement of suture-like implants that pull the prostate to the side and widen the obstructed urethra. Two recent reports provide outcome information on PUL.
In a meta-analysis focused on symptom improvement, five studies (2 randomized trials, 3 observational studies) with at least 2-year follow-up were identified. At 2 years, PUL reduced mean scores on the widely used 35-point International Prostate Symptom Score by about 10 points, with similar findings in the randomized and observational studies.
