Dear readers,
It has been over 25 years since we launched NEJM Journal Watch Psychiatry with Gary Tucker as our Editor-In-Chief and me as Deputy Editor (our inaugural issue was February 1995). With Gary's retirement and shortly thereafter his untimely death, I assumed responsibility as Editor-in-Chief in 2004.
Joel Yager, Steve Dubovsky, and I have been on the board of NEJM Journal Watch Psychiatry since its beginning. Special thanks go to Joel and Steve for their unparalleled endurance, productivity, and clinical insight — they have taught me a lot. I also thank our other current Board members Claire Wilcox (who started in 2017); Bryan King (2019), and Matt Peters (earlier this year).
We have been privileged to have multiple colleagues join us on this long journey. I want to thank all of them for their careful work over the years: Barbara Geller (1997–2018), Jon Silver (2004–2020), Deborah Cowley (2005–2016), Charles Nemeroff (1995–2005), Mike Otto (2000–2007), Joe Coyle (1996–2002), W. Edward Craighead (1995–1999), Katherine Shear (2007–2010), and Elizabeth Weller (1995–1997).
The most special of thanks goes to Betty Barrer, who joined the staff in 1999 and became Executive Editor in 2002, for her many years of outstanding and warm collaboration. Betty's amazing skill, acumen, and intellectual rigor served to turn our unrefined drafts into polished pieces. I believe her dedication to this publication was the essential magic that made it an enduring contribution to the field.
During this time, we have strived to offer our readers timely coverage of the most clinically impactful developments in psychiatry. We have all greatly enjoyed the process and hope our efforts have enriched our readers' clinical practice. Our publication is now coming to a close, but NEJM Journal Watch will continue to cover important research and guidelines of broad clinical interest, and we hope you will continue to find it a valuable resource. We thank you for your readership and wish you the best.
