To assess the prevalence of symptoms of major depression 30 days after miscarriage, investigators conducted a secondary analysis of data from a trial that compared treatments for management of missed miscarriage. Participants completed the Center for Epidemiological Studies–Depression scale (CES-D; range, 0–60) and the Adverse Childhood Experience scale. Major depression was defined as a CES-D score ≥21.
Of 275 women who experienced miscarriage, 24% reported major depression 30 days after treatment based on CES-D score, including 18% of 155 non-Black women and 31% of 120 Black women.
