In this very unprecedented year, the NEJM Journal Watch Infectious Diseases board has taken its own unprecedented step of putting together two top 10 story lists. The first list is of stories relating to the most important medical issue of the last 100 years — the COVID-19 pandemic — and the second list is of stories about other advances in the field of infectious diseases.
Whereas reports detailing the recognition of SARS-CoV-2, as well as its genomic characterization and clinical manifestations, were obvious choices for our list of top 10 COVID-19 stories, the board also selected seminal studies on treatments for COVID-19 patients, including reports on the activity of remdesivir, dexamethasone, and monoclonal antibody therapy.…
