Rimegepant, an oral calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) antagonist drug, was approved by the FDA in February 2020 for the acute treatment of migraine. Now, investigators have tested its use as an every-other-day oral prophylactic in an industry-sponsored, randomized, placebo-controlled phase 2/3 study. Migraine days in the month before study treatment ranged from 6 to 18 (mean, 10 days). Of 695 participants in the efficacy analysis, 626 completed the study.
