Although the yellow fever virus vaccine (YFVV) has high, durable efficacy, recent viral outbreaks in Africa and South America have accelerated demands on an already fragile YFVV supply chain. Accordingly, outbreak control with fractional (one-fifth) YFVV doses was successfully employed in Brazil. To test the generalizability of this approach, investigators in sub-Saharan Africa performed a double-blind, randomized evaluation of the immunogenicity and safety of one-fifth dosing compared standard dosing of YFVV from four different manufacturers.
