Antihypertensive treatments lower the risks for cardiovascular events, but this advance might be accompanied by adverse events ranging from mild to severe. Researchers conducted a meta-analysis of 58 randomized, controlled trials with 280,638 participants to determine the strength of the association between antihypertensive treatments and specific adverse events; falls were the primary outcome.
The median follow-up was 3 years. In the seven studies that reported falls as an adverse event (1790 falls in 29,481 patients), the adverse event was not associated with antihypertensive treatment, even with more-intensive treatment targets.
