Some studies have reported rising rates of pregnancy-related strokes. However, whether this applies to diverse populations, and what role specific risk factors play, is uncertain. These authors conducted a 30-year review (1987–2016) of trends in pregnancy-associated stroke (PAS) in Finland, identified from national registries for hospital discharges and medical births. They analyzed strokes by timeframe ranging from the first trimester to the 12 weeks following delivery. They identified trends in PAS overall and by maternal age group. The authors also conducted a case-control study to identify factors associated with PAS.
