A person with a family history of colorectal cancer (CRC) has excess risk for developing CRC and might merit more-intensive CRC screening. Does a family history of colorectal polyps also confer excess risk for CRC? Existing evidence is inconclusive. Researchers used Swedish national registries to identify 68,000 adults with CRC and 333,000 matched controls (mean age, 63). Patients with hereditary CRC syndromes and histories of inflammatory bowel disease were excluded.
