Late-Breaking Clinical Trial presented at the 2021 Annual Scientific Session of the American College of Cardiology
Finerenone, a selective nonsteroidal mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist that is not FDA approved, reduced the risk for new-onset atrial fibrillation or flutter (AFF) in patients with diabetes and chronic kidney disease (CKD), according to a prespecified exploratory analysis of the phase 3 FIDELIO-DKD trial. The industry-funded trial was presented May 17, 2021, at the Annual Scientific Session of the American College of Cardiology.
Nearly 5700 patients with type 2 diabetes and CKD were randomized to receive once-daily oral finerenone or placebo. Roughly 8% had a history of AFF at baseline.
